Journey With Olds | May 2012
The car show season is upon us and there are many opportunities to be an ambassador for the Oldsmobile Club of America. Participation in local shows may draw more attention to Oldsmobiles and encourage others to participate. Please take advantage of the opportunities to find prospective OCA and local chapter members.
2012 National Meet
In this issue, you will find information about events scheduled for the National Meet in Des Moines plus a source for finding other local activities. In addition, there are details about the racing event at Eddyville Raceway Park on Friday night. If you have not already signed up for a room and registered your Oldsmobile, we encourage you to do so soon.
OCA Merchandise Manager
There are two lines of merchandise offered at the website www.ocamerchandise.com. Recently, the line of OCA-logo merchandise has been expanded to include:
- T-shirts – including a version with a pocket
- Polos – including a version with a pocket
- Sweatshirts and Fleece Jackets
- Patches, decals, and pins
When you log on to the website, you will be on the page with OCA items. Note that in the upper left corner, you will see the words “Oldsmobile Merchandise.” If you click on those words, you will be directed to another page that includes a number of Oldsmobile logo items.
Log on to the website and check out all the selections. In addition to being available at the website, these items will be available at the 2012 National Meet in Des Moines. Suggestions for new items are always welcome.
At the end of March, the Board of Directors reviewed proposals from organizations to update the OCA Website. Those proposals include updated appearance, advanced technology, improved performance, latest graphical technologies, expanded content, and better accessibility to information. Additional information will be provided when the Board of Directors has made a decision and the design project is complete. We hope to have the updated website available for use by OCA members in the next several months.
R. E. Olds Transportation Museum Executive Director
In mid-May, the R. E. Olds Transportation Museum named Bill Adcock to be the Executive Director. Mr. Adcock was formerly the President of the Museum’s Board of Trustees, has experience with the car hobby, and is a member of the OCA. We understand that the Museum will show a greater interest in the Oldsmobile Club of America and has expanded its working relationship with the local R. E. Olds Chapter for Homecoming and will be involved with other OCA activities.
Wild About Cars
For those who are not already familiar with Wild About Cars, there is a website (www.wildaboutcarsonline.com) that contains substantial amount of historical automotive information and serves as a comprehensive reference resource for automobile enthusiasts. The website includes an extensive library that contains:
- Technical Information
- Factory Publications – including Assembly Manuals (body and engine)
- Photo Archives
- Factory Advertisements
- Factory Brochures
While the website includes many cars besides Oldsmobile, there is more information about Oldsmobile than any other. All of the information is available for reference and download. If you have information that is not available on the website, they will encourage you to submit it for inclusion.
Access to the website requires a membership – but there is no charge to join.
The OCA can assist your chapter in recruiting new members with the OCA Road Show kit. If you are interested in having OCA banners, copies of Journey With Olds, and membership applications, please submit your request for the Road Show kit to the OCA Insurance/Events Coordinator. Contact information is in “2012 OCA Chapter Events.”
Report from Oldsmar
This year, many OCA members made the trip to Oldsmar, Florida at the end of March to participate in Oldsmar Days. The Oldsmobile Club of Florida had an active role in planning the event and hosting a car show in conjunction with the parade. In addition to Florida residents, participants included members from California, Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Canada.
